The World Renowned Nose-Vaikom Muhammad Basheer(review by Aneeta Johnson)

‘The world renowned nose’ written by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer is a socio-political satire.His stories often leaves a smile in the lips of the readers.The story has a open ending which signifies socio-political satires will not end.Vaikom muhammed basheer, a giant of malayalam literature, is an ultimate word craftsman.
The story is a satire on Psychology of masses and the stupidity of crowds.The humorous piece talks about how one man who bears a distinct physical uniqueness the peaks of fantastic achievement as well as depths of defeat and despair – all because of society’s view on his physical feature.Simply notice that to replace the nose with the present problem.
The story starts with the description of a 24 year man. The protagonist is an illiterate cook. He is unaware about the date and time. when the month end came his mother receives  his salary and buy the snuff for him. The miracle had happened at the age of 24.
At the age of 24, his nose started growing. People from distant places started coming ti see this.Even people start bribing his mother for seeing his nose. The poor cook become rich within no time.The illiterate cook started giving opinions in international matters.a  People were very much eager about his words.He had two secretaries. One of his secretaries declared that the nose was made up of rubber.Doctors from super speciality hospitals came for testing. Finally the doubt was cleared.He was asked to stand for different parties in election. The story has open ended.
This story is a cruel paradox of life.It has a philosophical definition and cartoonist fashion.The fantastic story about the long nose one is  a tale of success,betrayal and tragic controversy.
